Herd In Iceland – DVD & Book Release
December 4th, 2012
Two years in the making, this HD documentary will cure even the strongest case of wanderlust. For over 1,000 years, Icelandic law has made it illegal to import horses onto the island. For that reason, Icelandic horses are a pure breed, isolated by oceanic borders. During the summer months, the horses live a remote and wild existence, grazing in the highlands and raising their young. Every September, they are rounded up by local farmers and directed across the rugged terrain to reunite with their owners. It’s a breathtaking tradition that unites the country. ”Herd In Iceland,” a film by Paul Taggart and Lindsay Blatt, documents the annual horse round-up. The result is a unique and moving portrait of Iceland’s people, horses, and stunning landscape. Edited by Michelle Mizner, with an original score by Joshua Camp. Watch the trailer here, and purchase the DVD and book of photography here.
Run time: 28 minutes, full-color HD, English and Icelandic with English subtitles

A bit of this will be in the final film, but for now – we hope you enjoy these words of wisdom from Guðmundur Guðmundsson.

Trailer Release + Kickstarter = Herd In Iceland, The Film
June 25th, 2012
We started working on this project nearly two years ago, which is why we are so happy to present the trailer for our film! The piece is a rollicking good time, edited by the incredible Michelle Mizner with original music by the talented Joshua Camp. Filming in Iceland over the last 2 falls has been the most incredible experience, and has motivated us to go full-time with our filmmaking endeavors.

We are reaching out to those who believe nature, beauty, adventure, and storytelling are necessary elements to a thoughtful life. We’re asking for your support to fund the post-production of the film, so please make a donation at any level through our KICKSTARTER page. We have wonderful rewards, such as filmmaking workshops, gear from 66 North, archival prints, signed copies of the DVD, and more!
The New York Times features Herd on LENS Blog
June 25th, 2012
The New York Times’ Lens blog has written a beautiful piece on the photography and filmmaking process behind Herd In Iceland. Last week Paul and Lindsay were interviewed by Matt McCann and James Estrin edited the photos in the NYT office. We are so appreciative of Lens and the community it has built for photographers and photo enthusiasts. It’s such an honor to be included in the list of projects mentioned on Lens.
Don’t forget about our fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, which ends on July 25th, 2012! The clock is ticking.
